Hakone Freepass: is it worth it? (calculator)

Rides in Hakone (the classic loop)
Starting from Shinjuku?
The Shinjuku version costs ¥1,100 more than the Odawara version (2-day, adult) and adds one round trip on Odakyu local/express trains between Shinjuku and Odawara. Enter your round-trip Odakyu fare (Shinjuku ⇄ Odawara) from the official Odakyu fare search to include it.
The Romancecar limited express is not included in any Hakone Freepass. It costs an extra ¥1,200 per adult each way (Shinjuku ⇄ Hakone-Yumoto).
What the Hakone Freepass covers
- Unlimited rides on 8 transport types in the Hakone area: Hakone Tozan Train (Odawara–Gora), Cable Car, Ropeway, Sightseeing Cruise, and buses on the designated routes.
- The Shinjuku version adds one round trip on Odakyu trains between your departure station and Odawara.
- Discounts at about 70 sightseeing spots.
- Not included: the Romancecar limited express surcharge, and Izu-Hakone buses.
Good to know
- Child fares not published for every segment are estimated at half the adult fare, rounded up to 10 yen (the usual Japanese rule).
- Hakone Ropeway boarding: 9:00–17:00 (Feb–Nov), 9:00–16:15 (Dec–Jan). It stops for strong wind, bad weather, mechanical trouble and an annual periodic inspection; check https://www.hakonenavi.jp/international/en/status_information on the day.
