Child fares you will pay

"Child" means ages 6–11 on this page. Adults are 12 and over.

How child fares are set: on the Minatomirai Line and Tokyu, half the adult fare rounded up to ¥10 (¥230 → ¥120). On JR, half the adult fare with the 5 yen dropped (¥350 → ¥170). Paper-ticket fares; IC cards are a few yen cheaper for adults.

Younger children on the Minatomirai Line: children aged 1–5 ride free, up to two with each paying passenger.

A family of 4, worked out

Rides on the Minatomirai Line: Yokohama → Minatomirai (¥200 / child ¥100) → Motomachi-Chukagai (¥200 / ¥100) → Yokohama (¥230 / ¥120). That is ¥630 per adult and ¥320 per child in single tickets.

From Shibuya by Tokyu

The 1-day tickets save the family ¥520 over single tickets. The Tokyu pass costs ¥400 more, so it only pays off if you also stop at other Tokyu stations on the way.

From Shinagawa by JR

The JR pass costs the family ¥380 more. It is only worth it if you will also ride JR Negishi Line trains between Yokohama and Shin-Sugita.

When single tickets are cheaper for kids

The child 1-day ticket is ¥230. A child's single ride is ¥100 or ¥120.

• 2 short rides (for example Yokohama → Minatomirai, then Minatomirai → Yokohama): ¥200 per child, ¥400 per adult. Single tickets win by ¥30 for the child and ¥60 for each adult.
• 2 rides, one long (Yokohama → Motomachi-Chukagai ¥230, then Minatomirai → Yokohama ¥200): ¥220 per child, ¥430 per adult. Single tickets still win, by ¥10 and ¥30.
• 2 long rides (Yokohama ⇄ Motomachi-Chukagai both ways): ¥240 per child, ¥460 per adult. The child 1-day ticket saves ¥10; for adults it is a tie.
• 3 rides or more: the 1-day ticket wins for adults and children.

Tips for families

• From Shibuya, many Tokyu Toyoko Line trains continue onto the Minatomirai Line, so you can stay on the same train to Minatomirai or Motomachi-Chukagai. You still pay the Tokyu fare to Yokohama plus the Minatomirai Line fare.
• The Minatomirai Line 1-day ticket is sold at Minatomirai Line ticket machines. Buy one for each person aged 6 and over.
• The Tokyu 1-day pass is loaded onto a PASMO card at Tokyu ticket machines. It cannot go on Suica, Mobile PASMO or PASMO on Apple Pay. The Q SKIP digital version (¥1,190) is for adults only.
